SOFTWARE PACKAGES FOR SAFER ROADS

In our pursuit to make our roads safer, we work closely with Traffic Police. While working with them, we have understood how they work and the problems faced by them. This made us think how we can make things easier for them and improve licensing system, enforcement and study road accidents to identify the underlying causal factors.

We have used the power of software and internet to assist the authorities. Our software packages assist the administrators to have a comprehensive review and analysis of the present situation and visualise the future situations, hence improving efficiency.

The entire information is also made freely available to other socially conscious organizations and citizens who may offer fresh insights for developing effective strategies for improvement and prevention of road accidents. These software packages are being used by Haryana Police and Chandigarh Traffic Police.

Test for License Aspirants – Poor licensing system at some places is a major cause of accidents on our roads.

The candidates attend a two hour lecture (Multimedia with voice-over) after which they appear in the test. The license aspirants attend these classes free of cost. The voice-over is in hindi; it would be translated in Punjabi and then in other vernacular languages so it can be used in other states. This system is currently being used by district police units of Haryana state and Chandigarh.

A computerised illustration based MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) is conducted and the candidate has to pass this test before applying for the license. This would help in standardising the licensing system. The simple format enables even an illiterate applicant to attempt the test. The test is created by specifying the number of questions to be included from each of the categories in the databank. Each candidate gets questions from all categories, Ex – Road Signs, Road Markings, Right of Way etc. Failed candidates can practice online, those not having computers can attend the lectures as many times as they need to.

Traffic Offence Data Management – The software completely manages the traffic offenders’ information. It has a detailed reporting system through which the top management can study the trends and take the needful action. This software is being used in all districts of Haryana.

Key benefits

  • Totally secure and transparent system.
  • Better management by administrative and efficient use of manpower.
  • Each and every activity of the staff from inventory management, form entry to receipt generation is recorded by the system.
  • Real time data analysis and detection of habitual traffic offenders.
  • Complete transparency - the record is logged in such a way that it leaves no scope of malpractice or corruption.
  • Inter-district and Inter-state information can be shared.

Traffic Accident Data Analysis Software – It is very important to record and analyse the accident data. We have developed online software that can be used by State Police units. The reports can be viewed and used by anyone working in the field of road safety.

This enforces

  • Open inquiry
  • Encouraging diversity of analysis and opinion
  • Promoting new research, testing of new or alternative hypotheses and methods of analysis
  • Supporting studies on data collection methods and measurement
  • Facilitates education of new researchers
  • Enables the exploration of topics not envisioned by the initial investigators
  • Allows the creation of new datasets by combining data from multiple sources.

Engineering Proposals Management Software - The compilation of accident trends facilitates improvements in road engineering. This software compiles all road engineering proposals made to the concerned departments and to monitor the status of the projects. It also generates debate and discussion, especially through the agency of print media, regarding the causes of road accidents and the steps that need to be adopted for their prevention.
